SafraSense

Context

SafraSense is a platform integrated with the Sentinel-2 (Copernicus) satellite that triggers climate and financial protection for smallholder family farmers in Latin America. The project centralizes information, climate evidence, and access to agricultural insurance in a single interface, ensuring that family farming does not face weather extremes without assistance.

Challenge

Develop, encourage, and strengthen projects that support the lives of smallholder farmers.

Process

  1. 01Mapping the smallholder journey to treat farmers as active subjects, not just portfolio metrics.
  2. 02Analyzing SWI (Soil Water Index) and Sentinel-2 vegetation bands to monitor crop water stress.
  3. 03Designing a simple onboarding flow that pulls cadastral polygons directly from the rural registry (CAR).
  4. 04Creating rural-first UI accessibility: high contrast, large text sizes, and simple WhatsApp notifications.
  5. 05Structuring the technical audit flow to export standard A4 reports, reducing the need for manual adjusters.

  • โ€”Responsible for the end-to-end mobile design and layout structure, building the intuitive user navigation flow for rural environments.
  • โ€”Coded the front-end using React, Tailwind CSS, and TypeScript, ensuring full responsiveness (Mobile First) for outdoor field use.
  • โ€”Implemented dynamic NDVI charts using real and simulated data to visually depict seasonal crop health changes.
  • โ€”Storyboarded, captured, and edited the video pitch presentation for the Copernicus jury.

Outcome

5th place internationally at the Copernicus Hackathon among 400+ participants. A farmer-focused B2C mobile application model, directly connecting smallholders to coverages they are entitled to (PSR, Proagro Mais, Pronaf) and enabling easy onboarding, tracking, and instant parametric insurance payments via Pix.
